I've funded Chroma's development through 716 Ventures for the last year. I'm opening 10,000 Founding Memberships to fund what comes next.
At $60 each, selling all 10,000 would provide $600,000 in gross funding to finish Chroma, expand the platforms it supports, build family sharing and DVR, support the people using it, and keep developing it independently.
No investors deciding what it needs to become. No advertising business to feed. Just customers paying for software they want.

I didn't set out to build another streaming service. I wanted a better way to watch the media I already keep — my movies, my television, on my screens, from my server.
So there is no catalog of titles you don't own mixed into your library. No advertising. No social network hiding inside the app. Your files stay on hardware you control.
It does less on purpose.

What works in the beta today?
Chroma Server runs on a Mac, a Windows machine, or a NAS through Docker, next to the files you already have. ChromaTV is the viewing side, and the living-room photograph on this page is that app running today on Apple TV. Roku, Google TV, family accounts, remote access, and DVR are in progress, not in this beta.
What does "lifetime" actually mean?
A Founding Membership is a permanent personal license to Chroma Server and first-party ChromaTV viewing applications, including future product versions and updates of those applications. Features that need separately licensed content, third-party services, or unavoidable direct per-user third-party costs may require separate payment. Roadmap work is not carved out of that promise by renaming it later.
What happens after 10,000 Founding Memberships are sold?
Lifetime memberships disappear for good. The planned standard price after that is $60/year.
Where does my media live?
On hardware you control. Chroma Server streams from your computer or NAS. Files are not uploaded to 716 Ventures.
What file formats work?
Chroma is built around the files already on your server, not a catalog we host. We have not published a public codec and container list yet. If a specific format is a dealbreaker, ask before you buy.
What hardware can run Chroma Server?
Chroma Server is built to run on macOS, Windows, and NAS devices through Docker. We have not published a minimum spec sheet yet. Put it on the machine that already holds the files.
Which viewing apps are available today?
ChromaTV is running today on Apple TV. Roku and Google TV are planned and are marked coming next on this page. iPhone and iPad clients are not part of this beta.
What happens if development stops?
You keep the personal license and the software you already have. If 716 Ventures stopped building Chroma, that would mean no further updates from us. It would not reach onto your hardware and turn the installed software off.
Can my family have separate accounts?
Not in this beta. Individual family accounts and separate watch history are on the roadmap. Founding Members receive them when they ship.
Can I watch when I'm away from home?
Not in this beta. Secure remote access is on the roadmap. Founding Members receive it when it ships.
Can I migrate from Plex?
There is no dedicated importer from another media server yet. If the files are already on a drive Chroma can see, you point the server at those folders.
